Abstract :

The purpose of the case study was to identify factors that are related to academic incivility amongnursing faculty ina nursing student. A phenomenological approach was used. A semi–structured face–to–face interview was done and qualitative thematic analysis was used with Colaizzi’s interpretation of data. This approach helped to illuminate and appreciate the lived experience described by a nursing student who participated in the study, eventually aiding in answering the research question. A nursing student who underwent an incivil act in the academic environment was selected on voluntary basis. The purpose of the study was explained to the nursing student. A semi–structured questionnaire was used. The nursing student was interviewed and data was audio taped and transcribed. There were four themes identified from the transcription which were academic responsibilities, emotional factors, faculty’s attitude and behavior and communication issues.
