A Study On Awareness About The Hospital Infection And Its Control Programme With Special Reference To Hand Hygiene Among Nursing Staff In A Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital.

Abstract :

 Introduction: Effective hand washing is the most important measure for preventing the spread of pathogens. Good hand hygiene is one of the most critical control strategies in outeak management. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) study on Hand hygiene practices among nursing staff of various departments. Methodology: A Self–administered questionnaire was given to 764 nursing staff (out of which, 619 responded).1 point was given for each correct response. Results were analysed statistically using number, percentage. Results: Out of 619 participants, majority 83.4% were females, 50.4% were in the age of 26–35 years, 80.5% were GNM, 96.3% were staff nurses, and 38.3% had 0–5 years of work experience. 64.8% had correctly answered the question regarding hand hygiene. However in practice 100% compliance was not there. Conclusion: There is a need to give training on hand hygiene for all healthcare workers on timely interval.
