Abstract :
Computed tomography (CT) has become a routine investigation for evaluation of alimentary tract disease because of its speed, accuracy and cross sectional imaging capabilities. The various criteria that allows one to differentiate normal variants and abnormal conditions are attenuation values, enhancement patterns, thickness, symmetry and length of bowel wall thickening and associated perienteric abnormalities. At many centers, CT has almost totally replaced conventional radiography as a screening technique for most acute abdominal processes and the new multidetector–array CT scanners provide even greater opportunities for detection and characterization of abdominal pathologic conditions.
