Antimicrobial susceptibility profile of Acinetobacter species at tertiary care hospital in Central India

Dr. Manish Nagendra

Abstract :

Introduction :–Acinetobacterspecies have become the most common etiology of hospital acquired infections due to the present frequent use of wide spectrum antibiotics.1Infections due to resistant Acinetobacterbaumanniiisolates cause difficulties in treatment.

Objective :–current study was to determine the susceptibility rate of different Acinetobacterspecies, isolated from various clinical samples of patients.

Methods :–43 strains of Acinetobacterspecies were isolated from different clinical specimens and fully characterized by standard procedures with  Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns as per guidelines of CLSI.

Results: Majority of isolates of Acinetobacterspecies 22 (51.16%) wereobtained from specimens of pus. The isolated pathogens showed 100% sensitive to Polymyxin –B and Colistin.

Conclusion: The present studied showed that aminoglycoside, quinolone and carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter species is increasing gradually.
