Jhantu Saradar, Sukla Hazra
Abstract :
Urbanization imposes rapid change in peripheral areas of a city. This paper discusses the technique of Peri–urban area delineation of North 24 Parganas district near Kolkata city. To find out the Peri–Urban area of the district Multi Criteria Analyses (MCA) of different bio–physical indices are made. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to determine the weights of different criteria. Consistency ratio (CR) was calculated to make sure of judgment of the weights given to the indices for Peri–urban delineation. Weighted linear combination method has been adopted in GIS platform. The influence of peri–urban growth has been quantifies with the help of bio–physical indices and census data. Hypothetical test of the variables are made to establish the associated and nonassociated impact of urbanization.
