Dr. Shradha Deshpande, Rutuja Jadhav
Abstract :
Background: The purpose of this study was to know the awareness of Non–Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) in urban population. Urbanisation is associated with obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Urbanisation is also associated with low levels of daily activity and NEAT. Methodology: A cross sectional survey with a self–made questionnaire was conducted among 300 participants. Of which 150 were young adults (18 to 35 years) and 150 were middle aged adults (35 to 55 years). The questionnaire included two parts. 1.Locomotive Activities, 2. Non–Locomotive activities. Data was collected and analysed using MS Excel. Results: Graphical analysis data shows that majority of the participants are aware about the locomotive components than the non locomotive components of NEAT. Conclusion; Based on our current study, it can be concluded that the awareness of Non–Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) and its components was very less in both the age groups. Among which awareness of non–locomotive components was observed to be less than the locomotive components. Awareness in middle aged adults was less than young adults
