CHROMOSOMAL ANOMALIES IN CHILDREN IN A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE - A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY.

Abstract :

Aim: To find out the frequency and types of chromosomal anomalies in children referred to Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH), Government Medical College, Kozhikode,Kerala,India. Materials and method: A retrospective study of karyotypes of 883 children in the age group of 1 day to 14 years, over a period of five years (January2015– December 2019) Result:The incidence of chromosomal anomalies in children referred to IMCH is 31.94%(282 out of 883). Largest number of anomaly detected was Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)There were one rare case each of Balanced Complex Translocation, Double trisomy and Dynamic mosaicism
