Clinical grading and histopathological staging in oral submucous fibrosis and their correlation with habits
Dr. Rajiv Mengi, Dr. Pranav Gupta, Dr. Sania
Abstract :
Aim: To evaluate the correlation of habits (chewing, smoking, alcohol), duration, frequency with clinical & histopathological stages of OSMF. Results: On statistical analysis, duration showed significant correlation, (p value=0.03) when compared clinically whereas when compared histopathologically showed significant correlation (p value=0.029). Frequency showed significant correlation (p value 0.001) clinically whereas frequency showed significant correlation when compared histopathologically, (p value was 0.0028). Conclusion: The treatment of patients with OSMF depends on the degree of clinical involvement. If the disease is detected at a very early stage, cessation of the habit is sufficient
