Abstract :

The purpose of the study was to compare the effect of computer assisted instructional Training (CAI) and combined instructional training (CIT) on playing ability and cognitive knoledge among inter collegiate kabaddi players. Twenty four male kabaddi players representing inter collegiate tournaments of Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai studying from Dr. Sivanthi Aditanar College of Physical Education, Tiruchendur were selected randomly as subjects. The age of the subjects ranged from 21 to 28 years. The selected subjects were divided into two groups. Group I underwent computer assisted instructional training (CAI) and Group II underwent combined instructional training (CIT) (both computer assisted instuctional training and traditional instructional training). The experimental groups were subjected to the computer assisted instructional training and combined instructional training for alternative three days per week up to eight weeks. The computer assisted instructional training (CIT) group received teaching components through computer programmes such as vedio shows, clippings and KABWHT (Kicking, Ankle hold, Blocking, Waist hold, Hand touch and Toe touch) computer assistive programmes for kabaddi skills for 20 minutes duration followed by 40 minutes self practice in the play ground. The combined instructional training (CIT) group received both instructional training, computer assisted instructional training and traditional instructional training 10 minutes each (total 20 minutes) followed by self practice for 40 minutes duration with the assistance of the investigator. The computer assisted instructional training (CIT) and combined instructional training (CIT) were selected as independent variables and the criterion variables playing ability and cognitive knowledge were selected as dependent variables and the selected dependent variable were assessed by coache’s rating and cognitive knowledge test and the unit of measurement in numbers and points. The experimental design selected for this study was pre and post test randomized design. The data were collected from each subject before and after the training period and statistically analyzed by using dependent ‘t’ test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). It was found that there was a significant improvement and significant different exist due to the effect of computer assisted instructional (CAI) training and combined instructional training (CIT) on playing ability and cognitive knowledge among inter collegiate kabaddi players.
