Abstract :

Aim: The Aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of two different Margin ceramics to Zirconia ceramic core at variable Core–Margin thickness ratio and the type of failure. Methods and Material: 40 Zirconia Discs were faicated of 10mm in diameter and 2mm in thickness. Samples were divided into 4 groups according to the type of margin ceramic used and the relative thickness of the veneering margin ceramic. Group A: 10 Zirconia discs veneered with 2mm layer of Vintage ZR Margin ceramic and the core: margin thickness ratio for this group was 1:1. Group B: 10 Zirconia discs veneered with 4mm layer of Vintage ZR Margin ceramic and the core: margin thickness ratio for this group was 1:2. Group C: 10 Zirconia discs veneered with 4mm layer of Ceramco PFZ Margin ceramic and the core: margin thickness ratio for this group was 1:1 Group D: 10 Zirconia discs veneered with 4mm layer of Ceramco PFZ Margin ceramic and the core: margin thickness ratio for this group was 1:2. All samples had been tested in UTM at crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min in shear mode and SEM evaluation was done to observe the mode of failure. Statistical analysis used: All the observations obtained were analysed statistically using software SPSS version 17 and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Post Hoc Tukey’s test were applied. Results: The results showed that SBS of Ceramco PFZ Margin ceramic with the Cercon Zirconia core at core to margin thickness ratio of 1:1 (26.79 ± 2.11 MPa) and 1:2 (26.64 ± 0.94 MPa) was higher than the SBS of Vintage ZR Margin ceramic with Cercon Zirconia core at core to margin ratio of 1:1(24.36 ± 1.16 MPa) and 1:2 (24.41 ± 1.39 MPa). Conclusion: It could be concluded that thinner veneers results in more of adhesive failure as compared to thicker veneers which results in more of cohesive failure.
