Abstract :

The aim of our study to Compare the results of close reduction and external fixation versus open reduction and internal fixation for distal humerus fractures in elderly patients. The study was conducted at the Orthopaedics department of I.P.G.M.E.R & S.S.K.M. Hospital with 20 patients in the age group of 35 to 60 years admitted in between January 2016 to July 2017 were included into this study [13 females and 7 male, closed fractures with fracture pattern AO type: (13–A2) four,(13–B2) four, (13–C1) eight, (13–C2) four, The patients aged less than 35 years or with open injury or communited articular AO 13–C3 closed fractures or having additional injury to the same limb in another area were excluded from this study. Average age of two study group mostly same and were men(60%).complete union of was achieved in all patient by radiographically.Mean union time in internal fixation was 3.1 month and mean was 3.7 month in external fixation,which was earlier and better. by Mayo�s elbow performance score: 3 excellent and 7 good results in external fixation with pin tract infection in 2 cases,1 radial nerve neuropaxia. End ROM average 100–1100 by Mayo�s elbow performance score:5 excellent and 5 good result in internal fixation with superfascial infection in 3 cases,1 teratogenic ulnar nerven neuropraxia. complication in both group were resolved by conservative management
