Abstract :

To obtain satisfactory reduction & union of fracture. During the period of 18 months between March 2016 and September 2018 at the Orthopaedics department of I.P.G.M.E.R.& S.S.K.M. Hospital, a total of 30 cases with 15 cases by Closed Reduction & External Fixation and 15 cases by Open reduction & internal fixation in displaced proximal humerus fractures in adults were done. Proximal Humerus fracture is most common in elderly people where bone is osteoporotic. In such bone implant holding capacity is less. Now Open Reduction & Internal fixation is gold standard for the treatment of Proximal humerus fractures. But it has many complications. So we chose Closed Reduction & External fixation for proximal humerus fractures to overcome the complications of Open reduction & internal fixation & compare the results between them. Therefore we can say that Closed reduction & External Fixation can also be considered as an effective treatment option for osteosynthesis of judiciously selected proximal humerus fractures in low cost.
