Abstract :

3 Dimensional imaging in the form of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has become a welcome boon as an aid in implant planning and designing. In the developing countries with limited access and utilisation of better technology, alternate means of obtaining satisfactory results with interventional procedures are required. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of surgical stent faicated with image analysis values derived from CBCT scan in precise implant placement.30 patients with single edentulous site in either maxilla or mandible were considered for the study. Radiographic stent faicated for diagnostic imaging was converted to surgical stent for intra–operative use with values derived from CBCT scan. Pre– and Post–operative parameters were evaluated for precision in implant placement. The mean of distance of implant from tooth present mesially and distally, along with linear distance of the implant from buccal and lingual cortex is 0.0418 mm (maximum – 3.15 mm). Whereas, the mean of angular deviation observed is 0.849° (maximum – 3.162°). The surgical stent faicated with the aid of CBCT is a valuable aid in precise implant placement. The precision of both the surgical stent and the technique can be further improved based on the findings of this study.
