Abstract :

Background: This study was carried out to assess diagnostic accuracy and correlation of FNAC and core needle biopsy in the patients of east lump. Aims and objectives: To correlate and assess diagnostic accuracy of FNAC, Core needle biopsy and surgical Pathology in evaluation of east lump. Material and method: Our study was performed in retrospective and prospective manner, 47 patients were subjected for fnac, and core needle biopsy and histopathology. Statistical analysis: The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value rates of cytological and core needle biopsy diagnosis were evaluated. Results: 47 patients with east lump were studied. Histopathological examination of all cases were done and correlated with cytology and core needle biopsy diagnosis. Specificity, positive predictive value of FNAC and core needle biopsy is 100% each, sensitivity is 88.09%(for FNAC) and 95.12%(for core needle biopsy). Negative predictive value for FNAC is 50%.But accuracy is nearly same. Conclusions : Both FNAC and Core Needle Biopsy are complimentary to each other and are useful in diagnosis of east lesions.
