Abstract :

Aim: To correlate shoulder strength, flexibility and eye–hand coordination with smash stroke performance in amateur badminton players. Design: Observational Study Methods: To measure Shoulder Strength– One Hand Medicine Throw Ball Test, for Flexibility – Shoulder Circumduction Test; for Eye–hand Coordination – Alternate Hand Wall Toss Test; for Smash Accuracy – Smash Stroke Performance Test was used. All the three components were correlated with Smash Stroke Performance. Results: Data was analysed using spearman correlation test. The r value of shoulder strength, flexibility and eye–hand coordination correlated with smash stroke performance was 0.2165, –0.0377, –0.1566 respectively. The findings were: Weak Positive Correlation of Shoulder Strength; Eye–Hand Coordination and Flexibility Showed No Correlation with Smash Stroke Performance. Conclusion: Shoulder strength has weak correlation with smash stroke performance whereas, flexibility & eye–hand coordination showed inconclusive results.
