Abstract :

We have studied halo coronal mass ejections and X–class X–ray solar flare related large geomagnetic storms magnitude (Dst ≤–100nT) observed during the period of 1997 to 2012 with shocks, radio bursts and Interplanetary magnetic field. We have found that the entire halo CMEs & X–class X–ray solar flare related large geomagnetic storms are associated with interplanetary shocks and the related shocks are forward shocks. Further we have concluded that halo CMEs & X–class X–ray solar flare related large geomagnetic storms are closely related to interplanetary magnetic field. Positive co–relation with correlation coefficient 0.88 has been found between magnitudes of halo CMEs & X–class X–ray solar flare related large geomagnetic storms and magnitude of change in average interplanetary magnetic field and 0.92 between magnitudes of Halo CMEs & X–class X–ray solar flare related large related large geomagnetic storms and magnitude of change in southward component of interplanetary magnetic field.
