Depression in mothers of cerebral palsy children and its correlation with age, education,income,and severity type.

Abstract :

 Introduction: Children with cereal palsy suffer from several problems like impaired gross motor development, balance, locomotion, sensory

integration dysfunction. So family especially the mothers undertake a lot of stresses & social and emotional difficulties.
Aims And Objective: To evaluate depression in mothers of children with cereal palsy,and to evaluate the influence of different factors
(age,education,income,level of severity)on depression.
Material And Methods: 110 mothers of children with CP coming to occupational therapy assessed with BDI–II measuring severity of depression
and GMFCS to evaluate the level of severity of disability of the child .Information about the age,education ,and income of mothers of the CP
children was also obtained. Data was analyzed by calculating mean and standard deviation.
Results: There is no correlation of depression with age,level of severity and income of family,however correlation exists between the education
and depression in mothers of CP children.
Conclusion: our study has showed prevalent depression in mothers of children with CP and depression is an independent variable.
