Determination of Chemical Components of Kidney Stone by the study of Energy Dispersive Xray Spectroscopy

P. P. Vora, K. C. Poria

Abstract :

Kidney stone formation is a biological process that involves complex crystallization phenomena. Various factors contribute to the formation of kidney stone in human body. For better understanding of mechanism of crystal growth formation, Energy Dispersive X–ray Spectroscopic study is made to justify the knowledge of phase compositions of the stone. To explain the underling study of the structure of the stone, the quantitative X–ray diffraction phase analysis performed on five kidney stones. According to the observed phase compositions, all the tested stones were classified into two chemical groups: oxalates and struvite. Further classification of oxalates it divided in to two: calcium oxalate mono–phosphate and calcium oxalate di–phosphate.
