DEVELOPING EFFICIENT PHEROMONE AND TRAP FOR HELICOVERPA ARMIGERA HUB.A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

Kausundra Rajendra Dayalal, Kaushik Joshi, V. Nandagopal

Abstract :

The trap development for the cotton bollworm  worm, Helicoverpa armigera is still to be perfected for trapping with higher efficiency. The pheromone components for Helicoverpa armigera was first reported by Piccardia et al (1977) followed by Nesbitt et al. (1979, 1980). The pheromone chemicals are 1. (Z) – 11 – hexadecenal and 2. (Z) –  9 – hexadecenal. Later, based on the recommendations of Tropical Development Research Institute, London, it was PAWAR et al., 1984 and 1988, who perfected a trap for Helicoverpa armigera at ICRISAT. Further, on the above observations, NANDAGOPAL et al.(2003) have reported a trap for this insect in pigeon pea eco–system with higher efficiency
