Dielectric, thermal and rheological behaviour of graphene–PMMA nanocomposites

Manasi Singhi, M. Fahim

Abstract :

A series of graphene filled polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) nanocomposites was prepared by in–situ polymerization in the laboratory. The concentration of graphene was changed in the step of 0.25 wt.% and nanocomposites were prepared in order to obtain a threshold concentration of graphene. These composites prepared by in–situ polymerization followed by compression moulding were characterized for their structural (using XRD, FT–IR), rheological, thermal (DSC, DT–TGA), dielectric behavior (∈’, ∈”) and ac conductivity. Frequency and temperature dependent behavior of dielectric constant was also studied. It was observed that at all temperatures and frequencies dielectric constant increased with temperature till it reached Tg and then decreased with further increase in temperature. It was observed that at room temperature composite with 0.75wt% of graphene showed a minimum value of dielectric constant at all frequencies.
