Abstract :

The leaves of Holopteleaintegrifolia (H.integrifolia) are suggestive of having analgesic and anti–inflammatory properties, thus useful in the treatment of tennis elbow. Anelementary investigationof the leaf extract was conducted in the present study as the beginning step to understand the active ingredients present and to correlate them with the suggestive role in curing different ailments. Ethanolic extract of leaves ofH.integrifoliaand successive fractionation was done with petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, n–butanol and methanol. Phytochemical analysis ofethanolic and ethyl acetate extractsshowed the presence of alkaloids, triterpenoids, saponins, steroids and tannins. Chloroform and n–butanolextracts showed alkaloids, triterpenoids, saponins and steroids.Triterpenoids, saponins, steroids and tannins are found in methanolic whereastriterpenoids and steroids in petroleum ether extract.  The anti–inflammatory and analgesic activities of alkaloids, triterpenoids, and tannins may be responsible for thepredictive role of H.integrifolia in curing tennis elbow.
