Effect of dechlorination and ultrasonic degradation on suspension and emulsion grade of poly (vinyl chloride).

Arjit Gadgeel, S. T. Mhaske

Abstract :

This study examined the dechlorination of different grades of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) under alkaline solution. Dechlorination under atmospheric pressure was carried out in NaOH/EG solution at 1700 C – 2000 C for 3 hours. This dechlorinated PVC was then subjected to ultrasonic degradation. Measurements of infrared (IR) spectroscopy, SEM, GPC and DSC were used to indicate the changes in PVC structure and properties due to formation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVAc) sequences in the polymer chain.
