Effect of Shahabad stone quarry dust on strength characteristics of M20 grade concrete

Prof Tanveer Asif Zerdi

Abstract :

Acute shortage of river sand is noticed in many parts of India and aoad. Herein study is carried out to find variation in the strength of M20 grade of concrete by replacing river sand with Shahabad stone quarry dust. Slump is kept constant 60mm. The compressive strength of concrete cubes at age of 7 , 14 and 28 days is obtained at room temperature. Split tensile strength and flexural strength of concrete are found at the age of 28 days. Here in it is found that maximum compressive strength, tensile strength is obtained at 50% replacement of Shahabad stone. This clearly indicates that locally available Shahabad stone quarry dust can be utilized in concrete mixtures as a good substitute for natural river sand, at 50% replacement with additional strength than control concrete. Replacement is done to 0%, 25%,50%, and 100%.
