EFFECTS OF ENDOTRACHEAL INTUBATION AND VENTILATION IN OBSTRUCTIVE LUNG DISORDER PATIENTS UNDERGOING SURGERY UNDER GENERAL ANAESTHESIA USING NMR SPECTROSCOPY STUDY OF LUNG METABOLITES

Abstract :

Introduction: COPD patients undergoing surgery under general anaesthesia can have an exacerbations of airway inflammation. The study aims to identify the metabolomics changes associated with general anaesthesia in COPD. Material and Methods: NMR spectroscopic analysis of mini BAL ( onchoalveolar fluid) in “after intubation” and “ before extubation” samples of well–optimized COPD grade II and grade III were done and principal component analysis was applied to know the differences if any. Results: 1D and 2D spectral analysis of mini BAL fluid revealed chemical shifts of various molecules. Principal component analysis (PCA) loading plot did not show changes in miniBAL metabolites of COPD patients in a duration of 3 to 5 hours. Conclusion: This study revealed that COPD grade II and grade III patients do not show any change in airway inflammation during surgeries of 3 to 5 hours under general anaesthesia.
