M. Ravi Kumar, Ermias Girma Aklilu

Abstract :

?e efficiency of green adsorbent prepared from natural source for removal of a basic dye Congo red from aqueous solution is examined in this study. Batch experiments were conducted at different temperatures to study the adsorption characteristics of Congo red removal on Valoria yopsis. ?e equiliium data were analyzed using Freundlich and Langmuir, adsorption isotherms. Freundlich adsorption isotherm model gave a good fit to the experimental data. ?e results proved that Valoria yopsis has good adsorption capacity towards Congo red dye removal. ?ermodynamic parameters, such as free energy change ( G? ), enthalpy change ( H ? ) and entropy change ( S ?) were calculated. ?e analysis of experimental results revealed that Congo red adsorption on Valoria yopsis was exothermic. Gibbs free energy change values from the experiments indicate that the adsorption process was spontaneous. Changes in values of entropy suggest that the adsorption process was favorabl
