Abstract :
Background: Disinfectant failure could increase microbial load on fomites and predispose patients to nosocomial infection, since the outeak of the SARS–CoV–2, fake products like hand sanitizers have come in the market and hence evaluating the efficacy of disinfectants necessary. Materials and Methods: Two disinfectants were tested, 0.5 McFarland Bacterial suspensions of Multi–drug resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa was prepared, the suspension is mixed with equal volume of 1:1, 1:5 and 1:10 dilution of hand sanitizer, vortexed and sub cultured on Blood agar, MacConkey agar and Muller Hinton agar at 20sec, 40sec, and 1min, similar sub cultures were made using standard WHO recommended disinfectants and normal saline control and growth was compared. Results: No Bacterial growth was seen in subcultures made from 1:1 dilutions, whereas @ 1:5 dilution Sol A produced Heavy growth and Sol B showed no growth of Organism and 1:10 dilutions Sol A showed heavy growth and Sol B showed mild growth and NO growth was seen in WHO recommended disinfectant even at 1:10 dilution. Conclusion: Antiseptics and disinfectants are used extensively in hospitals and other health care settings for a variety of topical and hard–surface applications. In particular, they are an essential part of infection control practices and aid in the prevention of nosocomial infections. So when properly used, disinfection/hand sanitizers can ensure prevention of transmission of infection
