Abstract :

Today, a whopping 70% of wastewater is released untreated, polluting surface and ground water sources, and posing a great risk to public health. The policy prescriptions on safe use of wastewater, effluent and sewerage treatment are in place, but better, more effective implementation is needed on the ground. Zero Liquid Discharge is the only answer to re– cover clean water from polluted water, if we have to reduce the industrial water foot print and save the planet from the great water crises. A new technology called Fine Particle Shortwave Thrombotic Agglomeration Reactor (FPSTAR) is developed by us. The technology is versatile and adaptable to any kind of effluent and wastewater. The recovered water using this technol– ogy can be reused for any purpose, including drinking, and will match local and International drinking water standards. This study was done to assess the efficacy of this new methodology in different types of industrial waste water from Textile, Dairy, Pharmaceuticals and Rubber processing Industries in India. Recovery plants of capacity ranging from 30 M3, 150 M3 and 240 M3 was installed at the source of each effluent. The product water had a total dissolved solid (TDS) ranging between 80 ppm to 450 ppm, the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Bi– ological Oxygen Demand (BOD) was reduced by 95 to 98%, pH was found to be in the range of 7 to 9.5 and the water was complying to IS:10500 : 2012 and WHO guidelines for drinking wa– ter quality, Fourth Edition, and the water was completely reused in their respective industrial process, with truly Zero Discharge any liquids.
