Abstract :

The study included 50 consequtive patients and clinical characteristics of the patients during the monitoring period (6, 12 and 18 months) were evaluated using the following instruments: Gustillo–Anderson, Schatzker and AO/OTA classification methods whereas functional outcome was quantified using modified system for functional evaluation according to Karlstrom–Olerud scoring system. Average functional recovery scores obtained by the modified functional evaluation system by Karlstrom–Olerud after 6, 12 and 18 months were evaluated as moderate recovery (average value 24.687), satisfactory recovery rate (average value 27.726) and good functional status (average value 29.561), respectively. The treatment of patients with open and closed multiple intra–articular fractures of distal and proximal tibia applying Ilizarov apparatus provided excellent functional outcome that positively affected the quality of life of these patients.
