Heavy metal contamination in Plants and Soils

Dr. D. Sarala Thambavani, V. Prathipa

Abstract :

Concentration of Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Pb, Cd and Cr were measured in tree species such as Azardirachta indica, Pongamia glaa and Delonix regia and soil samples at the depths 0-20cm and 20-40cm respectively. The mean heavy metals concentrations were found to be below the normal range and also the critical concentration in soil. Bio accumulation coefficient for all the heavy metal and for all the three selected plant species at residential site was found to be less compared to traffic and industrial sites. The geo accumulation index for Fe, Mn and Cr was found to be 0
