Abstract :

Bone lesions are very rare entity comprising 0.5% of the total world cancer incidence. Their epidemiological data is very sparse specially in Vidarbha region. Experience with bone lesions, their frequency, age, sex and site predilection is must for histopathologist to diagnose a bone lesion accurately. Aims: 1) To evaluate spectrum of bone lesion with relative frequency of occurrence, 2) To study correlation of age, sex and site of occurrence. Methods and Material: This is a retrospective evaluation of Histopathology reports, clinical and radiological data in tertiary care hospital. Results: Relative frequency of bone lesions is very rare comprising 1.44% compared to all body lesions. Among bone lesions, neoplastic lesions are more common 33 (75%) compared to non–neoplastic 11 (25%). Male are more affected than females. Bone lesions are more common in less than 20 years and 20–40 year age group. Malignancies are more common above 60 years of age. Femur was most common bone involved. Conclusion: Bone tumors have relatively rare incidence. They are relatively constant in their pattern of presentation, age, sex and site of predilection.
