Abstract :

Insulinoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumour [NET] from beta cells in the pancreas. It is characterised by uninhibited production and secretion of insulin. Insulinoma is small (<2cm) and solitary, benign nodule in 90% cases. Patients with insulinoma give rise to neuroglycopenia and sympathoadrenal symptoms due to hypoglycaemia. Clinical and biochemical profile with diagnostic imaging studies helps in diagnosis. Surgical removal of the adenoma or subtotal or total pancreatectomy is the definitive treatment. The focus of attention during surgery is to treat fluctuations in blood glucose levels peri–operatively. In this article, we will review successful peri–operative anaesthetic management of a case of insulinoma posted for laparoscopic excision.
