Abstract :
L2TP does not provide strong authentication by itself, instead it often uses IPsec to secure packets by providing confidentiality, authentication and integrity. This Paper introduces why L2TP/IPSec is necessary, how L2TP and IPsec work together, and then will discuss the details of the L2TP/IPsec tunnel establishment and authentication. Finally, discuss the implementation of the L2TP/IPsec tunnel under FreeBSD (UNIX).
