Larvicidal activity of leaf crude extract of Vitex negundo against malaria and filariasis vectors

P. Rajiv Gandhi, R. Regina Mary

Abstract :

?e present study was carried out to evaluate the Larvicidal activity of crude Methanol, Ethyl acetate and acetone extracts of the leaf of Vitex negundo were tested against the fourth instar larvae of the malaria, Anopheles stephensi Liston; and filariasis vector, Culex quinquefasciatus, Say (Diptera: Culicidae). ?e larval mortality was observed after 24 h of exposure. However, the highest larval mortality was found in methanol extract of V. negundo, against the larvae of A. stephensi and C. quinquefasciatus (LC50=94.81 and 88.83 ppm and LC90=171.91 and 161.206 ppm and 2= 3.307 and 5.288) respectively. ?is is an ideal ecofriendly approach for the control of the malaria vector, A. stephensi and the lymphatic filariasis vector, C. quinquefasciatus
