Laser assisted exposure of impacted canine: A case report.

Dr. Anish Varkey

Abstract :

Impacted canines are common findings among patients has consistently posed a challenge for dental practitioners. The need for orthodontic intervention is crucial as the canines are fairly responsible for arch form and facial profile. However, maxillary canine impaction usually needs multidisciplinary care to expose the crown for orthodontic alteration. In our case report, a patient undergoing orthodontic treatment required exposure of the impacted canine in the left upper arch in order to move the canine in position. Laser assisted exposure of the impacted canine was done after accurately locating the tooth and surrounding structures with the benefit of a cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) image. Immediate bonding of acket and activation of the ligature wire was possible in the same appointment. We can conclude that diode lasers could be well–thought–out as a valuable alternative to other traditional methods. The procedure was well–tolerated, safe and effective treatment and that the diode lasers could successfully expose the impacted canine without any deleterious effects instantly allowing further orthodontic proceedings, thus shortening number of sessions and treatment duration.
