Abstract :

Morphometry is the measurement and mathematical analysis of the configuration of the earth’s surface, shape and dimension of land forms. Quantitative Morphometric analysis of watershed helps in evaluating the characteristics of drainage network and is an important study for prioritization of micro–watersheds in the basin. Remote sensing and GIS technology helps in creation of the digital data of the drainage network present in the toposheets. The Morphometric analysis of the Venkatagiri Micro Watershed has been carried out with the help of Survey of India (SOI) maps on the scale of 1:50,000 using GIS software. Morphometric parameters were studied under three categories namely linear, aerial and relief factors. The result of morphometric studies indicate that the study area is 451.6 Km2 with the basin length of about 39.76 km, perimeter 103.63km. The lower order streams mostly dominate the watershed.
