PERICARDECTOMY-FIRST OPTION FOR TREATMENT OF PERICARDITIS WITH CONSTICTION

Abstract :

Objectives: • To study the profile of patient with Pericarditis referred to CT Surgery department of Gandhi Hospital. • To study the treatment options of Pericarditis. • To study the indications and timing of pericardectomy • To study the importance of pericardial biopsy and pericardectomy for the long–term management of Pericarditis. Materials and Methods: 33 patients who underwent pericardectomy were studied, who presented themselves in various stages of Pericarditis to the department of CT surgery Gandhi Hospital. Conclusion: Pericardectomy done early decreases the morbidity and mortality of patients and gives a chance for etiological diagnosis and specific treatment.
