Periodontal Aesthetic surgery - A Detailed Literature Review

Dr. Sowmiya Lingeshwaran

Abstract :

Gingival recession is the apical migration of gingival margin to the cemento–enamel junction (CEJ). The recessed tooth becomes highly unattractive and results in other consequences like hyper–sensitivity due to exposure of root surface, accumulation of plaque and calculus due to decrease in the width of attached gingiva, root caries as the surface of the root exposed to the acidic oral environment. The causes for gingival recession includes tooth malposition, alveolar bone dehiscence, high muscle attachment and frenal pull, friction from the soft tissue (gingival ablation), gingival inflammation and iatrogenic factors related to restorative and periodontal treatment procedures have been associated with the development of gingival recessions. Treatment includes identifying and eliminating the etiological factor, scaling and root planning, frenectomy / frenotomy gingival augmentation, veneers and crowns. Through screening during first visit and identifying the susceptible patients and eliminating the etiology helps in prevention
