Pigmented Villonodular Tenosynovitis: A DIAGNOSIS OF RARITY, OR IS IT????

Background: Pigmented Villonodular tenosynovitis is a benign lesion that is considered by many as a differential of rarity but presents as any

regular chronic joint swelling of whom diagnosis and treatment are on totally different lines.

Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 14 patients who presented with chronic knee or ankle swellings. Complete history and

previous management lines were noted and there diagnosis was then mulled with a oader scope of investigations.

Result: Three out of these 14 cases came out to be biopsy proven Pigmented Villonodular Tenosynovitis (PVNS), of which two were around the

knee and one was over the ankle. Out of the three, one patient had been on antitubercular regimen for over three months without any relief, one was

on DMARDS based upon clinical suspicion while the third one was being treated non–specifically with NSAIDS.

Conclusion: We thus concluded that PVNS must be kept as a viable diagnosis while dealing with chronic knee and ankle swellings.
