PRESCRIBING PATTERN OF ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUGS IN TERTIARY CARE TEACHING HOSPITAL, HALDWANI

Abstract :

Introduction– Psychotic disorder is a symptom of mental illness characterised by distorted or non–existence sense of reality.Antipsychotics are the agents used for the treatment of psychotic disorder. Objective– To evaluatethe prescription pattern of Antipsychotic drugs in outpatient and inpatient department of Psychiatry of Dr Susheela Tiwari Hospital, Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Material and method– Data was recorded from the outpatient and in patient department prescription forms . statistical analysis was done. Result– The majority of the patients were males . Most commonly affected age group was 18–30years.. Olanzapine (46.5%)was the most commonly prescribed antipsychotic drug and psychosis was most common indication for prescribing antipsychotic drugs. Monotherapy was given in 90.1% patients Conclusion– Olanzapine was the single most commonly prescribed antipsychotic followed by risperidone and amisulpride.. Monotherapy of antipsychotic drugs was significantly prescribed irrespective of psychotic disorders.
