PUNJAB AGRICULTURE: A SHIFT FROM CRISIS TO GROWTH – SOME POLICY MEASURES

Poonam Pathak

Abstract :

Beginning with early 1980’s the sheen of Green Revolution started fading away. The dream strategy of green revolution comprising HYV seeds, fertilizers, mechanization and irrigation has become a grave for small and marginal farmers. Once the torch bearer of green revolution, agriculture in Punjab has stooped to the new low of farm productivity. The capital intensive commercial farming has led the farmer to the quagmire of indebtedness. The agrarian distress has reached a high climax.
