Radon–Risks and Solutions

Natasa Tomic Petrovic

Abstract :

Irrespective of the fact that both European and national legal regulations include radon, the public is mostly unaware of the risk of daily radon exposure. An appropriate system needs to be established for reducing significant exposures, but emergency action is mainly undertaken in order to reduce exposure of the most vulnerable groups to radon descendants but not the action for exposure reduction of the overall population. Investment in the knowledge of citizens and informing them on radon, its activity and ways of protection should become the priority for all familiar with harmful effects of this gas. In this paper relevant opinions on radioactive gas radon and its effect on the environment and individuals all over the world together with proposals for protection are presented.
