Abstract :

A two–year retrospective and one–year prospective study of spinal injuries in children and adolescents (0–18yrs) conducted in KGMU Lucknow to evaluate incidence, etiology and outcome between 2004 and 20061. The data of 82 patients were analyzed the result was 62 male patient and 20 female patients, male –female ratio was 3.1:1, no infant was found in our study, toddlers were 6 (7.31%), school going 15 (18.29%) and adolescent were 61 (74.39%). The most common mode injury was fall from height (FFH) 48 (58.53%) followed by road traffic accident (RTA) 10(12.19%), Other 9 (10.97%), fall of weight (FOW) 8 (9.75%) respectively. The most common verteal level of injury was T11–L1 24 (29.26%) followed by C5–C7 14 (19.51%), T1–T10 14(17.07%), L2–S 10 (12.19%), SCIWORA and 0–C4 9(10.97%) found in patient. On further analyzing the data of study, we have found some patterns and relations between age, mode of trauma and radiological level of verteal fracture. In this study we analyses these variables of spinal cord injuries of children and adolescent and relations between them.
