Dr P. Suresh, Dr. B. Manimaran
Abstract :
Primary spinal tumors are mostly benign neoplasia of the spinal cord, meninges and verteal column. They are classified into extradural, intradural and extramedullary and intramedullary tumors. Extramedullary tumors contribute 17.6%, intradural extramedullary tumors 58.8%, and intramedullary tumors 23.5% in our study. Mean age is 43.2 years at the time of diagnosis. Male–female ratio 1:1.9 in our study. Extramedullary tumors and intradural extramedullary tumors gave excellent results irrespective of their location. Intramedullary tumors at high cervical region had guarded prognosis. Complete resection of intramedullary tumors in other locations gave excellent results.
