Abstract :
Aim of the: To evaluate the role of ocular and systemic factors on resolusion of acute CSCR episodes. The purpose of the study is also to determine the association between ocular and systemic risk factors of CSCR in relation to resolution of the disease using central macular thickness and visual acuity.
Methods: This prospective observational case series recruited 65 patients of acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), who were followed–up for 6 months. Diagnosis and follow–up were attained by dilated fundus examination, digital fundus fluorescein angiography (DFA), ocular comprehensive tomography (OCT) and assessment of best–corrected visual acuity by Snellen’s Acuity Chart.
Result: Higher reduction of central macular thickness and greater improvement in visual acuity were seen in spontaneous resolution group compared to subjects of delayed resolution of CSCR (p
Conclusion: Systemic risk factors like persistent stress, hypertension, type A personality and ocular factors i.e. multiple leakages, pigment epithelial detachment (PED) and recurrent attacks influence the resolution process and affect final visual outcome.
Keywords :
central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) pigment epithelial detachment (PED) retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) central macular thickness (CMT) best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) hypertension stress.
