Solar Cycle Variability of Solar Activity Parameters and Cosmic Ray Intensity

Abstract :

We studied the relation between yearly average count rate of cosmic ray intensity observed at Kiel and Oulu super neutron monitor during the period of solar cycle 22 and 23 with various solar activity (SA) parameters, e.g. sunspot numbers (SSN), solar flare index (SFI), coronal index (CI).It is seen that yearly average count rate of cosmic ray intensity is well correlated with yearly mean of sunspot numbers, solar flare index and coronal index. We have found large negative correlation with correlation coefficient -0.91 between yearly average count rates of cosmic ray intensity observed at Oulu super neutron monitor and sunspot numbers and -0.89 between yearly average count rates of cosmic ray intensity observed at Kiel super neutron monitor and sunspot numbers. Large negative correlation with correlation coefficient -0.91 has also been found between yearly average count rate of cosmic ray intensity observed at Oulu super neutron monitor and yearly mean of solar coronal index and -0.86 between yearly average count rates of cosmic ray intensity observed at Kiel super neutron monitor and yearly mean of solar coronal index. From the analysis of yearly average count rate of cosmic ray intensity observed at Oulu super neutron monitor and solar flare index, we have found negative correlation with correlation coefficient -0.86 and -0.77 between yearly averages count rate of cosmic ray intensity observed at Kiel super neutron monitor and yearly mean of solar flare index. We have found that yearly man of sunspot numbers, solar flare index and coronal index are also well correlated with one another. We have found very large positive correlation with correlation coefficient 0.94 between yearly mean of sunspot numbers and solar flare index. Very large positive correlation with correlation coefficient 0.97 has also been found between yearly mean of sunspot numbers and solar coronal index.
