SPORTS MANAGEMENT IN 21ST CENTURY EFFICACY OF MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Abstract :

 The paper presents the results of a study on efficacy of Management functions in Physical Education High/Higher Secondary Schools in Tamil Nadu. The effectiveness of Management is studied with reference to overall Managerial Acts and its five dimensions.

The Study involved 166 schools in Kanchipuram Revenue District in Tamil Nadu. A questionnaire on Management of Physical Education (QMPE) was developed by the investigator. It consisted of 50 items and studied the overall Managerial Acts in five dimensions.

The data collected through this questionnaire were analysed with respect to Location, School–sex, Type of Management and–Educational Districts. Descriptive and Differential statistical techniques were used.

As far as the effectiveness of Efficacy of overall Managerial Acts–scores was concerned, welfare schools got the higher mean score (79.56%) and the schools at Tiruvallur Educational Districts the least (71.62%).

Out of Five dimensions, Aided Schools got the highest mean scores in three dimensions viz., PA (79.23%), DA (82.82%) and CA (82.377). Welfare schools got the highest mean scores in two dimensions viz., OA (88.89%) and SA (78.89%).

QMPE Questionnaire maybe used by the authorities of the schools and Government to find out the Efficacy of Managerial Acts and take necessary further actions to improve the Physical Education Programmes in Schools.
