Abstract :

The emergence of stem cell therapy has given a great fill up for the future of tissue regenerative medicine. Dental stem cells have great potential because of its accessibility, plasticity and proliferative ability. Various studies have shown that stem cells are primarily found in ‘niches’ and dental tissues are a rich source of mesenchymal stem cells that are useful for tissue engineering application. Several types of dental stem cells have been identified including those from human dental pulp, primary exfoliated deciduous teeth, periodontal ligament, third molar follicles etc. Many studies are still in nascent stages but it is imperative that stem cells and tissue engineering will give rise to a separate anch of regenerative dentistry which will leave an indelible print in future of dental practice.
