Abstract :

This is a Case series study on epidemiological factors, clinical spectrum and drug susceptibility of 10 microbiologically culture proven cases of melioidosis in goa medical college over a duration of 8 months. Diagnosis of Burkholderia is done by culture of blood or specific body fluids (joint fluid aspirate, pus aspirate) on Ashdown’s medium.ADDIN CSL_CITATION {"citationItems":[{"id":"ITEM–1","itemData":{"ISBN":"1111111111","author":[{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Samy","given":"Ramar Perumal","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Stiles","given":"Bradley G","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Sethi","given":"Gautam","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Lim","given":"Lina H K","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""}],"id":"ITEM–1","issued":{"date–parts":[["2017"]]},"page":"1–28","title":"Melioidosis : Clinical impact and public health threat in the tropics","type":"article–journal"},"uris":["http://www.mendeley.com/documents/?uuid=e1a410df–b0cc–459e–be22–539f23066764"]}],"mendeley":{"formattedCitation":"(1)","plainTextFormattedCitation":"(1)","previouslyFormattedCitation":"(1)"},"properties":{"noteIndex":0},"schema":"https://github.com/citation–style–language/schema/raw/master/csl–citation.json"}(1) Burkholderia is most commonly seen in middle and elderly population. Males are predominantly affected. Commonly seen in diabetic host. Most common occupation was field workers. Most commonly presenting as sepsis with acute kidney injury. Rare presentation includes skin abscesses, ain abscesses, splenic micro abscesses and ain abscesses. Most commonly sensitive to monobactams. Ceftazidime resistant strains are emerging as new clinical challenge.ADDIN CSL_CITATION {"citationItems":[{"id":"ITEM–1","itemData":{"DOI":"10.3390/tropicalmed3020051","author":[{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Mukhopadhyay","given":"Chiranjay","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Shaw","given":"Tushar","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Varghese","given":"George M","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""},{"dropping–particle":"","family":"Dance","given":"David A B","non–dropping–particle":"","parse–names":false,"suffix":""}],"id":"ITEM–1","issued":{"date–parts":[["0"]]},"title":"Melioidosis in South Asia ( India , Nepal , Pakistan ,","type":"article–journal"},"uris":["http://www.mendeley.com/documents/?uuid=0157b611–f6a3–456c–bab8–596d02bb0a6e"]}],"mendeley":{"formattedCitation":"(2)","plainTextFormattedCitation":"(2)","previouslyFormattedCitation":"(2)"},"properties":{"noteIndex":0},"schema":"https://github.com/citation–style–language/schema/raw/master/csl–citation.json"}(2)
