Abstract :
We report synthesis and study of optical band gap and microstrain of undoped
(ZnS)and doped ZnS nanoparticles prepared by CBD method at 0.0125 M. The prepared
nanoparticles are characterised by X–ray diffraction, UV absorption and Transmission Electron
Microscopy techniques. The dopant is Fe and doping concentrations are 6 % (ZNS–Fe–6%) and
8 % (ZNS–Fe–8%). The average particle sizes are found to be of the order of 4 nm, 3 nm and 4
nm for ZnS, ZNS–Fe–6% and ZNS–Fe–8%. The microstrains associated with the nanoparticles are found to be 3.13 X 10 –2, 1.5 X 10 –3 and 1.8 X 10 –3 for ZnS, ZNS–Fe–6% and ZNS–Fe–8%
doped by Fe. The decreased value of microstrain may be attributed to the decrease in defect
density of the nanomaterials after doping. The value of microstrains for ZNS–Fe–6% and ZNS–
Fe–8% are almost equal. Which suggests that when doping concentration is increased from 6% to
8%, the structure of ZnS nanoparticles is almost remain same. The values of optical band gap for
ZNS–Fe–6% and ZNS–Fe–8% are found to 3.35 eV which also suggests that the structures of
both the doped nanoparticles are almost same.
