Abstract :

Purpose: To study the role of closed reduction and percutaneous pinning in restoring and maintaining the anatomical alignment of the Supracondylar fracture .To assess the functional outcome of the Supracondylar fractures managed with closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation using �FLYNN�S CRITERIA�. METHODS: A Retrospective type of study conducted in ASRAM Hospital, Eluru, from Feuary 2018 to January 2020. A total number of 30 cases who met inclusion criteria were selected and taken into the study group and followed for an average period of 6 months. Under general anaesthesia, all children with Supracondylar fractures (Type II & III) were treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pin fixation under C–arm guidance with 2 mm k wires within 12–24 hours of presentation. The post–operative slab was kept for 3 weeks. Patients were reviewed after 3 weeks for a radiological assessment and k wire removal. The children were followed up at regular intervals of 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks, and 6 months. The obtained results were graded based on Flynn et al. grading. RESULTS: • Out of 30 cases, 10 (33.3%) cases had excellent results, 14 (46.7%) cases had good results, 4 (13.3%) cases had fair results, and 2 (5.5%) cases had poor results. • According to Flynn�s criteria, satisfactory results were observed in 93.3%. CONCLUSION: From the present study, �Closed reduction and Percutaneous Pin fixation� can be considered as a standard minimally invasive procedure of choice in Gartland Type II and III supracondylar fractures of humerus with minimal morbidity with early mobility resulting in good functional outcomes.
